• Make your selections based on the following:

1. Select a time period or movement you are interested in
2. Select an artwork you enjoy because of the way it looks = aesthetics
3. Remember each Art-choice has to be from a different time period or movement
4. In your Essay cut and paste the museum site/link, the title of the artwork you select, and the artist, for each of the 3 you select
5. Prepare to research and find out more about the artist and the piece itself use:

As you learn about each movement/historical time period and the “art” that was created from them…answer the following:

There are Two sets of questions students should answer possibilities depending on category selections:

• Art associated with a movement:

1. What was that particular movement a reaction to? what was going on in society (previous art movements) and the world at that time? What types of revolutions were going on? scientific ? industrial?
2. What are the specific goals of the art movement you see (what were the artists trying to question or do differently?)
3. What are the specific visual qualities/characteristics of the movement?

• Art associated with an early civilization:

1. What is the purpose of the artwork you see in the textbook? (why was it created?)
2. Location created? (place?) Time in history?(context)
3. What was the different value system of the society (people) who created it? (what did they value in religion and philosophy?)
4. Materials and tools available (technology) (what kind of tools did they use? why?)
5. Influences –was the artist who made the artwork aware of ANY other art made before the creation of their artwork? How did that affect how the content of the art?

• Write a ½ to a 1 pg essay for each artwork (3) from the categories you selected (remember points will reflect effort and information given in essay)
• In your own words- summarize and give valid information in your essay- pretend I know nothing about the movement or the artwork and you are giving me all the aspects of the artwork the artist and the surroundings it was created in!
