High school education plays important role in forming identity, character and future prospects of every person, although little research is done to asses the effects of juvenile justice involvement during studying at high schools. Educational outcomes are the primary matter of interest as the researchers tend to reveal whether juvenile delinquency affects studying process and educational outcomes.

The author has revealed that during high school years juvenile justice played detrimental role in educational process as it resulted in increased rates of school dropping. First-time arrest without court has resulted in less number of school droppings.

The results support labeling theory stressing that the more court involved in arrest and criminal justice system, the more arrestee are provided with lower self-esteem and negative self-concept.

Therefore, mainstream values and behavior remains offside. Court appearance does negatively affect educational outcomes for young people with the first arrest. Sweeten writes that the data is obtained from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth and the primary purpose of the study is to track work experiences over the life-course of respondents.
