In the United States, there exists a commission that focuses on its national interests. The Commission consists of a group of Americans who believed the world needs the US as their global leader. This is because people around the world would have their values and lives threatened with countries dealing with chemical and nuclear weapons (for example, Iran). The American foreign policy has become impulsive and reactive to the uncertain and the fast changing world. Their aim is to observe that their national interests are upheld in conjunction with those of other countries to be able to achieve international goals in all aspects. This can be either diplomatic relations or business at large. One of fundamental US national interests are to discourage and reduce the threat of chemical and nuclear weapons assaults on US and its military forces in other foreign countries thus ensuring subordination in shaping a successful international  system. The congress in 1996 imposed diplomatic sanctions against Iran after revealing that the Iran government had made efforts to acquire weapons of mass destruction and its support.

America’s national interest and policies in relation to Iran
1) Explain American national interests in relation to Iran.
United States national interest over the years in connection to Iran has been done majorly through imposition of diplomatic sanctions. The US enacted an act of congress in 1996 specifically to deal with the issue of Iran (Davis, Fisher, Kingsbury, & Merry, 2012). The act was enacted after the findings of congress linking Iran to owning weapons of mass destruction and aiding terrorist groups (Houghton, 2001). This act was known as ‘Iran Sanctions Act of 1996’. The congress made the following findings:
a) The US congress was able to discover the Iran government efforts in acquisition of mass destruction such as nuclear and other chemical weapons. In addition, the Iran government support of terrorist activities (Houghton, 2001). These activities in view of the United States government not only dangers but threaten the lives of the international community in which the United States shares universal foreign and strategic policy objectives (Houghton, 2001).
b) The aim of stopping the propagation of acts of terrorism and mass destruction weapons through the existing bilateral and multi lateral programs requires extra efforts to rebuff Iran the financial  abilities to maintain its chemical, nuclear,  and the missile weapons agenda (Houghton, 2001).
c) The Iran government utilizes its relation with the international community and the quasi-government institutions that are out of Iran to endorse terrorist activities and thus utilize its chemical and biological weapons in aiding these inhuman acts (Houghton, 2001)
United States interest in the Middle East (IRAN)
There are two major concerns for the United States government in relation to the Iran government. First, there is the establishment of nuclear weapons in Iranian soil. Second, there is a greater possibility in Iran’s nuclear ambition to trigger a nuclear arms race in the whole of Middle East region (Selden, 1999). This is a problem for US government since it may tamper with the economy of the US as they depend on the middle east countries for petroleum products thus becomes a  national interest for the US government. The Iran’s nuclear power is the number one concern on the US agenda in safeguarding its national interest (Davis, Fisher, Kingsbury, & Merry, 2012). However, the US government is fully aware of the fact that if Iran acquires the nuclear restriction it could lower the credibility America’s grip of the Middle East countries. Therefore, such an occurrence would be of concern to the United States and Iran is aware of this fact (Selden, 1999).
The global standing of the United States
United States government effort in stopping nuclear weapon establishment in Iran is not only a national concern for the US but also an international concern. The US government in allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons would give the perception that United States is weak unlike the perspective of their allies (Davis, Fisher, Kingsbury, & Merry, 2012). Iran’s nuclear project would encourage other Middle East countries to join the nuclear club and this would result to warfare, as it is already a war ton region. The US is against this, and it has in the past engaged in military actions and diplomatic sanctions to ensure that their nuclear weapon development does not mature and has issued threats of using deadly force in the event this happens. This is with the aim of ensuring that its national interest is respected (Selden, 1999).

United States sanctions against Iran
In the past three decades, the US government has issued economic sanctions against Iran with an aim to blunt Iranian support for terrorism. The sanction policy by the United States dates back to 1984 when Iran attacked Marine Corps armies in Beirut (Houghton, 2001). Since then the US government has taken measures restricting trade with Iran, which was targeted as a way of stalling development of the Iranian oil industry thus reducing its earnings and its capacity to fund terrorist activities (Davis, Fisher, Kingsbury, & Merry, 2012).
The united states through the senate imposed fresh economic sanctions against Iran despite the warnings by white house that these events would make it harder in achieving the objective of persuading Iran to curb its nuclear program. These new sanctions were an amendment to the national defense authorization act, which was aimed at imposing sanctions against foreign companies engaging in business with Iran in the various economy sectors The sectors that allegedly give support to Tehran arms and nuclear programs includes ports, energy, and shipping (Davis, Fisher, Kingsbury, & Merry, 2012).
The other provisions of this act are the penalties to foreign buyers of Iranian natural gas and oil and if they pay for it with Gold. This measure was aimed for turkey, which supposedly exported 6.4 billion dollars worth of gold to Iran for acquisition of natural gas. Obama’s administration believes that diplomatic means would be better than imposing sanctions against Iran. Most analyst believe that every sanction passed by the US congress reduces the president’s litheness and increases doubts of whether sanctions would allow diplomatic talks with Iran (Davis, Fisher, Kingsbury, & Merry, 2012).
In conclusion, the American government is committed to ensuring that Iran does not succeed in enhancing its nuclear power and divert it military use through chemical and biological attacks on any nation. Restrictions in the forms of  sanctions against the Iran government are significant as this prevents the rapture of another third war and collapsing of the economy in the end.
