– This week I want you to take a look at the different types of Disorders Featuring Somatic Symptoms. Often my students are confused about the differences between, and the similarities among, these disorders. This is why I want you to discuss in depth: Somatic Symptom Disorder, Conversion Disorder, Illness Anxiety Disorder, and Factitious Disorder.

1) Discuss, in depth, the distinguishing characteristics (symptoms) between each of the Disorders Featuring Somatic Symptoms. That is, tell me how one would be able to tell the difference between each of these disorders. Put this into your own words, don’t just copy and paste (plagiarize) what the text book says.
2) Discuss, in depth, the commonalities among each of the Disorders Featuring Somatic Symptoms. What binds these disorders together as a topic for CH 8? Are there similar causes of these disorders? If so, what are those common explanations (theories)?
3) Lastly, discuss the concept of Munchausen Syndrome and Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy as part of Factitious Disorder. What are they and how are they different? Also discuss the difference between Factitious Symptoms and the concept of Malingering.
